I wonder, can you make a piece of paper dramatic?
I dare you to take a single sheet of paper and crumple it up to snap a dramatic and dynamic picture of it.
Use a single sheet of paper (plain, notebook, news, patterned, or colorful) and crumple it up - or neatly fold. The goal is to transform the flat sheet into a dimensional playground.
Then take your paper to an environment with sharp lighting, like underneath a desk lamp, on top of a light table, to a dark room with a flashlight, or a place with dim lighting and use a camera flash. We are looking to create high contrast highlights and shadows..
With a smart phone or camera, zoom in real close to your crumpled paper, get 1 inch away and snap a few pictures. Play around with different angles. Try re-shaping the paper. And notice how the light responds to the paper creating interesting and dramatic paperscapes.
To accentuate the dramatic lighting you can boost the contrast with editing software.
My next step is to use them as the foundation of a collage or maybe a jagged landscape for some illustrated characters to travel through.
